Gotta Love A Snow Day!

Even without the benefit of cable television and its plethora of weather related channels, I could have predicted today's weather. I am blessed with my own furry little weather pixies who react to low pressure systems like high grade crack. The Big, Fluffy Kitty and her Smaller, Less Fluffy Counterpart were up much of the night, howling and racing about our very small abode. If one managed to doze off, the other took over the role of Ye Olde Towne Crier and made sure that I was aware of the coming precipitation every hour on the hour.

Thus, I was not surprised to have this be my view from the couch for the first half of my day today:

No, this is not the same picture that I posted of the last storm that no one could see. I risked using up a little of my valuable energy that may be needed later for foraging and making fire to take another one for you. I'm a "giver."
By noon, the kitties were both fast asleep, having exhausted themselves utterly the previous evening and feeling reassured that I was awake and able to keep an eye on the situation for myself. The precipitation turned to sleet and, finally, rain. What snow we had is now being beaten into submission by torrential rainfall and I expect that we will all be aquatic creatures by midnight if evolution follows its predictable course.
Happily, my school district made the call early and I knew before dawn's early light that this day would be mine own. Good thing, what with all the kitty-generated activity last night. I didn't get much sleep. In my bleary state, it took me a while to draw a bead on the activity 'o the day. I spindled a bit, knit a bit...heck, I even vacuumed the living room just to keep things jumpin' around here. Then I was struck with one of those irresistible urges. You know the ones. They sneak up on you and suddenly you are convinced that you will simply perish if you do not meet the need. This happens to me a lot with the chocolate... And I won't lie to you. I did eat my share of storm chocolate today. But the really irresistible urge was to break out the wheel and ply the mystery fiber. And so I did.

This is the absolute last of it. So intent was I on the plying that I almost forgot to take a picture. There is just about a pound of this stuff and I plied the whole danged mess of it. My back is killing me from all the sitting! But there are multiple skeins in various stages of setting and drying in my shower right now and that is a mighty good feeling, certainly worth any aches and pains as far as I'm concerned. I was a little disconcerted by the inconsistencies in this yarn. I honestly thought I was doing a much better job of maintaining the level of fluff that I was spinning. But, in the long run, I think that the thick and the thin will balance out enough that I can come up with an average WPI and call it good. And if not, who cares? It's awfully pretty and if I move around enough while wearing whatever garment it grows up to be then I should be able to fool the eye of the casual observer.

Tomorrow there will be a little change-up in the Saturday routine. Sock, Spindle and Sheep will pack up and head up to a local high school to assist CamMad's Dad with the scoring for the Maine Academic Decathlon. We'll be holed up for hours listening to tunes and getting a bird's eye view of the best and brightest as they attempt to prove their academic superiority. We will also eat a lot. And feel superior to others because we will know who is winning before anyone else. We will use lots of computer type lingo that will confuse anyone who dares to enter our lair and they will flee in confusion. I also get to knit for hours on end. Alllllllll good!

And while The Sheep's away, the skeins will dry. Maybe tomorrow night I'll have a few pictures of some nice new yarn for your consideration. Or maybe I'll be all tuckered out from my day of snacking, scoring and superiority and we will all have to wait until Sunday.

Ohhhhhh, the suspense.....can you stand it?????

You are a lucky Sheep, indeed! Every Town Hall in the area was closed except ours. As it turns out, the roads weren't all that bad, but I think we had maybe 2 people come into our office all day long. I sat at my desk thinking about my knitting all day (well, and reading a few blogs).

Oh, I miss those nice quiet snow days. I spent the last TWO snow days playing astronaut. It was actually entertaining for about 30 minutes. After that I just wanted to drink coffee and knit:-)But the wee ones would have none of that.

My snow day came last Sunday; unfortunately the snow didn't shut down the area like it normally does, so it was back to work on Monday. The mystery fiber yarn looks great. I can't wait to see what other photos you have in store for us!

I love the mystery fiber and can't wait to see all of the skeins.
I think my dog acts the opposite way of your cats. We slept in until 10 am this morning because I had a self-imposed snow day today!

Luckily my cats don't know a low pressure system from Schroedinger's Cat, so I slept well the last few nights. You have my sympathy -- it's tough to sleep when the felines have other ideas.

My cats will sleep through anything—except dinner! Enjoy your blissful blizzard.

Glad you had a snow day! Sounds like you had a good weekend set up, too. Not a bad life for a sheep.
