Knot Knitting. Wresting Wrist.

As I've mentioned before in one or another of my Things That Are Falling Apart Before My Very Eyes posts, my wrist hurts sometimes.  Today was one of those "sometimes."  I know that I joked yesterday about the Invisibility Shawl's possible evil intentions and designs upon my well-being, but I honestly didn't think it was true.

Yet, it seems that it really is out to get me.  I have knit to the point of wrist-wrelated wrong-doing.  It is a wee bit swollen and certainly stiff.  Perhaps sitting and knitting for hours at a stretch is not a good idea for one of such advanced years as myself.

So today, in the interest of continued progress and possible project completion, I took a little break.  I'll try again tonight and, in between bouts of tax-filing, keep at it during the work week.  Who knows?  I may finish this thing yet...

This is my overly complicated and far too wordy way of saying that I got nuthin' fer ya today.  Not one fibery thing of interest.  I spun a bit.  But not enough to show a picture of something that looks any different from what I've already shown you.  So I am at a loss.  I'll have to look elsewhere for inspiration...

How about the kitchen?  Oh, now close your mouths.  I can cook.  Seriously.  I just don't do it all that often, is all.  But lately, circumstances have dictated that I be a bit more frugal with the dollars and it is certainly more cost efficient to make things from scratch sometimes than it is to purchase it already done for you.

We all  know my love of the frozen pepperoni pizza.  I pretty much live on it.  It's kind of like cooking.  The oven is on, anyway.  Heating up frozen pizza has been my definition of cooking for a while.  However,  I used to make it myself many moons ago.  I've been practicing a bit over the past couple of weeks.  It's not the same as my beloved frozen variety...

But, I've finally gotten it round-shaped.  This is progress!

As long as I've got pizza for the weekend, I'm good.  Usually.  Today, however, I had a yen for some ice cream.  But, I was kind of full from all the pizza so I wasn't feeling much like going out.  I had clearly discernible garlicky essence about me and a dusting of parmesan around my mouth.  I wasn't exactly a vision of loveliness.  Or good hygiene.  I figured that, for the sake of the community, I'd stay in and make a quick version of the frozen goodness:

With chocolate chips.  Because it was the right thing to do.

I hadn't done this in years and years.  It was kind of fun, really.  Some half 'n half, vanilla, sugar and chips in a bag shaken up while surrounded by ice and salt...suddenly you have ice cream!  It's like a five minute miracle!  Is it as creamy and smooth as gourmet dairy treats?  Why, no.  No it is not.  For that you have to go visit Mommy Sheep because she makes the best ice cream ever.  But I lack her patience (and an ice cream maker) so this quick fix is a good alternative.  And all that shaking burns one or two of the impending ice cream calories.  I sort of felt like I was at summer camp.  I almost started toasting marshmallows and writing my name in my underpants.

So there's the day.  The Invisibility Shawl beat me down for a short bit, but I think I'll be able to make a comeback.  And there was pizza, spinning and ice cream to fill the void.  All in all, I think that the shawl and I are kind of even.

Even if we aren't, pizza and ice cream are good for wrists and even better for the disposition.  I'm certain of this.

If you started writing your name in your underpants, you'd still be at it!

Wrest the wrist.

Sounds like a good day to me. And would you please stop referring to your advanced age as an "excuse" for the stiffness, since you are younger than I am and therefore a "mere baby" in geological time!

Your pizza looks better than the frozen variety! And ice cream is ice cream - yum! I hope your wrist feels better soon.

I would like to learn to make that shake-it-up ice cream. My ice cream maker is in storage until we get another refrigerator with an ice maker.

Who knew you were such a Martha Stewart type?

Pizza looks yummy! Didn't all that shaking of the ice cream hurt your wrist?c

I'm with you on the wrist thing. I think it is all the newbie spinning. And rotary cutting quilt blocks. I'm donning the orthopedic gloves (aka Maine Mitts) for the day.

Think it will work?

The HusBoy makes pretty good pizza, but I'm the only one that can make decent crust... I'm vital to the home-pizza-making team, muwahahahaha! Swelling bad, ice (cream) good.

Anytime you use a kitchen appliance, that should qualify as cooking. Some people need many appliances and pots to accomplish this. You are merely an efficient cook, only needing to heat up the oven.

I was planning just this week to make pizza myself! And I love frozen pizza - but for the exact same reasons as you, I'm going to have to start making it.

If you wanted to dedicate a blog entry on pizza-making tips, I wouldn't mind :)

I can only knit for about an hour, especially on small needles after I messed up my hand & wrist.. so its not just you! Take it easy!

I've been a horrible, neglectful reader, please forgive! I think we should all have a long discussion with Whoever Is In Charge about this falling apart stuff - If I'd bought a car in this bad shape, I'd have taken it back long ago! As for project monogamy - you might remember that I decided to knit my mom a sweater for her bd - that was on March 8th. Still knitting. Need socks. Or something. Oh, well!

Sheepie, as I type this with my carpal tunnel brace on, I feel your pain. Literally. I'd suggest going to WalMart and getting one (a brace, not carpal tunnel). Or I'll send you one. Even if you only wear it while you sleep it helps. And look! You can even type while wearing it.

I agree heartily. There's nothing more fun than homemade pizza, although I'd suggest being careful about getting cocky and starting to toss the dough. Pizza dough and light fixtures do not mix. (Ask me how I know.) Sending pain free thoughts to that wrist!
