I Like Wednesday

Seriously.  Wednesday is good.  Minimal Thinking Day.  I get to come home, make panini and do the Wednesday Night Bullet Post.  Very relaxing.  This is good because I am feeling exceptionally scattered today.  Here's your bullet points on this chilly middle-of-the-workweek-evening:

*Weird commute this morning.  The sleet had stopped sleeting and the roads were delightful.  Everyone at school agreed on this.

*Which is why we were all so surprised when we fell down in the parking lot.  Apparently, there was isolated icing.  Who knew?

*For the record, it is always better to slip on the ice when everyone else does it.  It makes you part of the "cool crowd."  When you fall by yourself, you just look stupid.

*Lookit what Cathy sent me today:

Finn and Shetland...does it get any better?  Can you see the possibilities here?  And it just so happens that I have a vacation coming up.  Tee-hee!!

*Between that and the candy that Trek sent, I'm good for the foreseeable future.  I like to be prepared for Snow Days and unscheduled zombie invasions.  I will venture out for chocolate and fiber regardless of the circumstances, I fear.  It's good to have supplies on hand.

*I have had a headache all day today.  It is either my sinuses, an incoming low pressure system or a symptom of being a teacher in December.  Or all three.

*I should eat more chocolate.  Just in case.  You never know.

*Gratuitous Blurry Kitty Photo For Mia:

Um... hello.  Can I help you?  I was sort of in the middle of thinking deep thoughts, here.

*Have I mentioned that I am trying to learn how to speak Scottish Gaelic?

*I am out of my mind.  I really stink at languages.  I couldn't conjugate a verb if someone was holding a bag of moths to my stash.  I'd have to buy a new stash.  Or live stashless.

*Sometimes I get it into my head that something would be a super-keen idea.  Now everyone who drives past me on the morning commute gets to see me yelling at my dashboard.  They probably don't know that I am trying to tell a CD that it is talking too fast.

*I really only need to know how to order pizza and locate the restrooms.  I can't see how I'd require any other phrases should I happen to take a knock to the noggin and wake up in the Outer Hebrides someday.

*I can't say either of those things yet, so I'm thinking about wearing a helmet until I finish the course.

*I am starting to think that I should finish the Christmas shopping.  I don't want to rush it, though.  People hate it when others get their shopping done early.  I'll just sit tight for a little bit longer.  Plenty of time...

*I have just come up with another possible reason for my headache.  Denial takes a great deal of the blood supply from other thinking processes.

*One more small weather event this week and then we get a break from the precipitation until Sunday night.  No one wants to talk about Sunday night so we are still unsure about how much snow we are going to get, but I always get nervous when no one wants to talk about something.  It usually indicates that a lot of something is heading our way.

*I bound off another scarf tonight.  I'm now in the process of coming up with some sort of unique and eye-catching fringe to distract the recipient from the fact that I ran out of yarn at an awkward point in the pattern.  I'm pretty sure I can pull it off.

*Seriously.  Is there no end to the reasons why I have a headache today???????

Tomorrow is Thursday so I'll have to go back to more coherent posting.  That'll be nice, right?  Meanwhile, I'll just enjoy my Random Wednesday, eat a little chocolate, think about fringes and pet some new fiber.  Tomorrow things will just click right into place, I'm sure.

Right?

Take a knock to the head and wake up in the Outer Hebrides? You've got a vacation coming up -- you should read Outlander (Diana Gabaldon) ....

Scottish Gaelic, huh? So you're saying I'm not crazy because I bought a bagpipe chanter at the Scottish Games last spring and am attempting to teach myself to play the bagpipes? (I'm serious here, so you can stop laughing.) At least when *you* practice no one can hear you. It's really hard to practice bagpipes in private. Or while driving, for that matter.

One word: iPod. In the audiobooks section there is an option to make the speaker either slow down or speed up. Although why anyone would want a speaker to go faster is beyond me, since if they do anything wrong it is to go too fast.

Chocolate is good. Too much chocolate is bad. One year my sweetie bought about a gazillion pounds of excellent chocolate at some fantastic after-Christmas sale. Having no will power in the chocolate department, I ate a LOT of chocolate over the next couple of months, which led to a sensitivity to it I am only now getting over. For several years chocolate was a migraine trigger for me. That sucked. Big time. Take care.

My only reason for getting a headache is that I'm a woman and I've woman's hormones and they don't like me.

Those kitty eyes are kinda scary.

You may also want to learn "Which way to the American Embassy?" You know, just in case things get hairy.

I'm looking forward to seeing the fiber spun up. Maybe your headache is from falling down in the parking lot.

The best part about learning Gaelic is that pretty much anyone living who could be considered a native speaker will also be fluent in English, or at least Scots, which is fairly close. So you shouldn't have to worry too terribly much.

Of course, you have to wonder about any language where saying, "My name is Séamus," means that people are supposed to call you "Hamish". Or vice versa, or something.

When I was in Glasgow, the sweet young thing doing the tour kept talking about the "Gallic" people and language. Took me a bit to realize she meant Gaelic (which I pronoung "gay-lick" not "gal-ick) and not French! Seriously, Glasgow is fabulous--history, lots of universities, and all kinds of Rennie Mackintosh stuff to see and do. I'd go back in a heartbeat! (Even if my brother is now insisting that we are Irish and not Scottish!)

Awww.. look at those little BFK kitty glowing eyes ::laughing:: and she's looking as lovely as ever :)

Scottish Gaelic ya say?

And what kmkat said... there's a way to put audio books on your ipod???? Why do I not know this (or have a freakin' clue how to do it?)

Scottish Gaelic sounds good to me. I wonder if Sean Connery is available for lessons. Does the person on the cd sound like Sean Connery? Oh and candy. You have candy! It's no wonder you're not worrying about your Christmas shopping.
Lovely fiber by the way.

You're in good company (as long as you consider me good company): I haven't finished my Christmas shopping either. Not a thing yet for Number Guy. And he wants to know what I want. And I don't know. Help me!!

PS - Chocolate triggers headaches. Just so you know.

Scottish Gaelic? I'd think that you'd want to be adding sheep and yarn-related words to your vocabulary. I once played harp for a Scots Gaelic singing group. It was a lot of fun but the little bit of Gaelic I learned is long gone.

I must need more coffee - your bag of fiber scared the hell out of me I thought it was some kind of rodent...

The Finn is via Cyndy (riverrim). I might overdye Shetland/Finn - it came out more limegreen then I expected. I used turquoise, pale green and a bit of gold. Always surprised when things change their intent.

Very mesmerizing eyes from the kitty. What is she trying to impart to you?

Better keep me away from Gaelic.

Ooh! Pretty wool!

My cubicle neighbor at work is Scottish. I love how his accent is more intense after a visit home (normally pretty subtle as he's lived here a long time). He has a funny joke involving Scottish men, kilts and sheep...
being that this is a respectable blog I suppose I should keep it at that.
