My Milkshake Brings All The Boys To The Yard...

Well...not really. Even if my milk shaking abilities were of the boy-luring variety, I don't actually have a yard since I live in a condo and all. I do have a couple of kickin' parking spaces, but they don't seem to be filled with boys either so I'm reasonably sure that I'm safe from the milkshake seeking hordes.

Besides, if I take the song any further than that I am saying that, "my life is better than yours" and that I'd be willing to teach you for a fee. That seems rather presumptuous, really.

Where was I going with this????

Oh. Right. My new blender. Sorry. I got lost in the intricacies of yesterday's hip-hop. It really all relates to hummus. I like hummus. And I've been making my own pretty regularly for a while now since it is a good snack and gives me a hit of the protein that I often miss in my diet. But, living in a small space, I tend to limit my appliances wherever possible. I've been using my little, two speed immersion blender for my weekly hummus production and not all that thrilled with the results one can get from a ten dollar small appliance. So I decided to upgrade. Meet my new, multi-speed, can-chew-through-concrete KitchenAid version:

And it makes the aforementioned milkshakes, as well!
A bit pricey for hummus. But it is something that I use weekly, so I'd say it is an investment. And it is red! Like a sportscar!
With the help of my new Hummus Maker, I was able to get my snacking needs met for the upcoming week but that was about it for today, I'm afraid. Yesterday's bout of productivity in the outside world must have really taken it out of me. I made it to the grocery store (the new early morning Sunday shopping continues to work well and limit the amount of "marketing stupidity" experiences) and got everything successfully put away. But there was little else in the way of "finishing." I worked a bit on the sock, a tad on the Feather 'n Fan Thingie That Will Never Be A Scarf and spun a teeny amount. Nothing is really even close to the finish line, though so it didn't seem worth getting out the camera. You'll just have to take my utter sloth on faith. I thought about all the things that needed to be done around here. But that was about as far as it went.
And it looks like another busy week is looming for The Sheep. My class work group has finally gotten a handle on the direction of our upcoming project and the homework is coming fast and furious on that front. The meeting that I have successfully avoided thanks to several well-timed cancellations is going to happen this week come heck or high water. I had managed to wangle my way out of a field trip to the state capital on Tuesday when the parent of the child with whom I usually travel opted to go in my stead. But that little plan seems to have fallen apart so it looks like I will be boarding a bus bright and early with a gaggle of fifth graders whether I like it or not. And I am down two staff people until the new hires are ready to start. Sure, I can knit in class or on the bus to Augusta...
But it's not looking good for any real progress this week. Not good at all. Until Friday, that is. I have a doctor's appointment and opted to take a full sick day rather than try to drive back and forth so perhaps I'll have some breathing room then. Spring break is still two weeks away, though. A very, very long two weeks.
I'm suddenly feeling a strong craving for a milkshake...

I love my stick blender and use it more than any other appliance in my kitchen.. I should really upgrade to the Ferrari model for christmas or birthday.

Long time lurker - delurking to ask about the hummus. I love the hummus. I am totally jealous that you make your own every week. So.....would you mind sharing the recipe (if it is yours), or where you found it? Thanks - and good luck with the busyiness!

Now.. about sharing that hummus recipe.. I never thought to make it at home. Maybe a hummus tutorial in your "spare" time?

Well, thanks. Mid-post I had to race to the kitchen to make myself a chocolate shake -- a malt, really -- with our little immersion blender. Why, yes, I AM susceptible to suggestion, why do you ask?

Could you mail me a milkshake? Or maybe FedEx it? Vanilla, please.

Nice blender.

Oh that's pretty! I love it in red! What a great idea - using hommus as a snack and home made at that! I could take some to work with carrots etc. I don't know why this never occured to me before. Ta!

My $10.00 job that I use for soapmaking fell on the floor and broke yesterday (we have stone floors), so it just so happens that I'm in the market for a replacememnt. That red model is awefully tempting....I was just going to pick up another $10.00 one, but now you've got me thinking.
DH had a super fancy Quisinart (sp?) one as part of his dowry, but he won't let me use it for soaping.
I know you gave a recipe for hummus once before...I need to search your archives for it.

Found it! It was in your December 3rd post. I would add a link to it, but I couldn't figure out how to link just to that 1 post, but it can be found on the December 06 archives page, towards the bottom. It sonds yummy!!

I gave a royal blue version to my DH. It's amazing what it can do. He often makes split pea soup, and it is very good for that. Similar to hummus but a different legume and hot.

I have just figured out that I am both allergic to high fat dairy and somewhat lactose intolerant. But the milkshake sounds good in theory. Especially a raspberry one.

I hope you find a little knitting time!

I'm jealous. I so very much want one of those for making my squash soup. It'd make it ever so much less messy. Wouldn't mind it for hummus, either, truth be told.

Oh a new appliance! I love all things KitchenAid. I'll have to add one of those to my wish list. Enjoy!
