Time

The clock has run down.  Summer is, for me at least, over and done.  You may have heard a subtle whimpering throughout the day.  Sorry if that was distracting.  I tried to keep it to myself.  But sometimes the Wistfuls just slip through...

The last day of summer vacation for some means a day to relax and enjoy those final few moments of rest.  For those of us who happened to spend the past couple of months saying things like, "Oh, there's plenty of time...let's practice napping!" it means trying to find the various surfaces in the house and remembering where we put our commuter coffee mug.  It requires that a list be made.  It also requires that one take a somewhat forgiving attitude as it can be quite easy to slip into despair over the lack of productivity over the vacation months.

Thankfully, I started last night.  Various things were baked ahead of time so that breakfasts and lunches will be ready to go this week.  The coffee maker was cleaned so that it can be programmed to produce an acceptable brew tomorrow.

Today was all about restocking the cat food supply and tidying the condo so that I don't have to come home to sad chaos after tomorrow's workshops.  The kitchen counters were cleared of accumulated debris and the bathroom floor was mopped.  The carpets were vacuumed down to their actual, original fiber and I was rather shocked to see that they are really blue!  I thought they were the same colors as the cats...

I also finally remembered to put the stickers on the car that indicate to law enforcement that I have dutifully paid my registration fees and excise taxes this year.  It wouldn't do to be late to school on the first day because I was chatting with the nice officer about how important it is to keep up with these sorts of things.

But, fear not!  I did, in fact, find the time to sit and crochet on the One Row Wonder while catching up on a couple of downloaded episodes of Blood Ties.  There may or may not have also been a short nap, but I won't speak any more of that.  Napping time is over for me, you know.  I really should be working on not napping instead of continuing to practice daytime sofa snoozing...

So that's it then.  The dinner hour is past and we are approaching the prime time television hour.  There is nothing left to do but double check that the alarm is set, lay out an appropriate outfit for Teacher Workshop Day and accept the fact that I cannot watch any programs that air after 10:00.  We are back to reality and the responsibility that comes from earning a regular paycheck.

::sigh::

I hate it when I'm doing something I'm enjoying and have to go to bed because I have to get up in the morning. I feel like such a kid. A nerdy kid because we all know the cool kids are staying up late. Good luck on the morning routine tomorrow. You sound remarkably prepared.

but it was a good summer :)

I'm learning the fine art of naps myself.. I'm suprisingly good at it and I still have 6 more days :)

I've been thinking about that baked egg thing you do for days.. haven't made it yet, but I've been thinking about making it hehe.

Now, now. Let's set a good example, shall we?

Or not. Nothing after 10pm? What about Mad Men? Burn Notice? That's just asking too much. Can't you stroll in fashionably late?

I too must return to work on Tuesday. ::le sigh:: But I was not so efficient as you. I washed clothes on Sunday so I could pack on Monday, but decided that my fellow accountants would just have to accept me wrinkled. Ironing was way too much work, and besides, it was about 90 degrees.

At least I don't have to get up while it is still dark. And I'll be done in 6 weeks.

You are a brave and dedicated woman. Your kitties should be proud of their momma.

I feel your pain...
In my case, I had my two kids 13 years apart. This means that when *1 left for college, #2 started kindergarten. From 1980 till 2006, I got up early to get a kid off to school every morning (Do you have your homework? Where is your backpack? What do you mean you can't find your boots? Yes, you will eat breakfast before you leave. No, cookies are not breakfast.) before getting myself ready for work. 26 years...
When #2 left for college, I realized that I could sleep in till 7am. What bliss!

I've enjoyed your blog for quite a while, but was too shy to comment. Would I seem like a stalker if I told you I gave you a "Love your Blog" award?

The summer goes by much too quickly. Good luck at school. I hope all the teachers are nice to you and the kids don't cause too many problems.

Good luck, Sheepie. You are at work as I type this.

School starts tomorrow.
We did a dry run this morning.
The alarm went off at 6:30.
I fed the Neatnik and ensured that she dressed herself in a reasonable amount of time.

I want to go back to bed now.

The first year our son went to school, I used the beeping timer on my watch so much to keep us on track that I wore the battery out!

I have to admit, I'm a little giddy about this whole "back to school" thing. In fact, it pretty much guarantees that my office phone will not ring hourly with reports on what the siblings are up to that I would never guess.

Whatever will I do with all that time?

I am terribly sorry that the end of summer signifies your return to gainful employment. However I am phenomenally thrilled to have all those little blighters off the streets and back in school for the bulk of the day! Hallelujah & pass the cocktails - peace & quiet reigns again in my neighborhood!

Incidentally, while I let others focus on the hazards of zombies, velociraptors, etc., - vampires are definitely an issue for me. So I have to say, Blood Ties as a tv show was okay - but the books were better!

*sigh* I feel wistful because this back-to-school bears no significance for me at all except that I can buy notebooks for journaling at half price. Hope you had a great first day, and that you have a good class this year.

Don't you feel at all uplifted by the glorious swelling of joyous song from parents across the land?

I'm so sorry for you (and me) that summer is over. I was lucky (and smart enough) to take some time off from work during the last week of summer.
Why does summer have to end? It's such a nice time of year.
It's not easy giving up the nap in the afternoon.
I'll be thinking of you this week. It sounds like you are well prepared for the whole back to school thing.
