De-Bugging

Stupid bugs.  I hate 'em.  Hate 'em like poison, I tells ya!

I'm not talking about real bugs.  Although I do actually hate real bugs quite a bit.  Lots, actually.

We did have a hornet find his buzzy little way into the manse today, truth be told.  And it was quite the adventure trying to dispatch the interloper while convincing The Absurdly Gi-normous Kitty that this was not something requiring his assistance.  My position was that I did not think he would enjoy being stung.  His was that, as the man of the house, it was his job to take care of the bugs.

He is a very, very big boy.  Bigger even than when I first lugged him into the house that first day thinking that this was a pretty big cat.  Convincing him to stand clear is not nearly as easy as you might think.

But that has nothing to do with the bugs I was trying to eradicate today although it did provide something of a diversion.  No.  I was really trying to work the bugs out of the morning schedule.  Last week being the first week of school, I was thrust back into the routine of a working girl once again and it did not go well.  Not well at all.

In spite of several "dry runs," I found myself frantically rushing out the door each morning hoping that traffic might consider working with me so that I might make it into school in something resembling a timely fashion.  Deep down, I suspect that this is all related to the fact that I really wasn't ready to go back to school and that I have grave doubts about this year being one that I will someday refer to as A Year Of Rousing Educational Success.

But that doesn't change the fact that I need to get to my job.  Apparently, some great mind came up with the idea that only the people who actually do the work get to collect a paycheck.  I'm not sure if I wholly agree with that concept but what are you gonna do?

So, today has been spent trying to take care of all those things that seemed to get in the way last week.  Instead of having to do a last minute outfit change, I've checked the weather forecast to make sure that I have appropriate clothing for the temperatures.  Rather than race back and forth between the bathroom mirror and the toaster oven, I've arranged things so that I can take care of one task at a time in a more efficient manner.  Morning items have been relocated for easier access and in places where I will see them.  That should help with the whole "running back into the house to get all the stuff I forgot" issues.

We can only hope I've managed to cover one or two bases.  I'm certain that something has escaped my attention, but it has to be better than last week's train wreck!  I blame middle age, if you want the truth.  Back in the day, all I had to do was stumble out of bed and shower.  I was good to go.  Getting ready these days takes a great deal of time and better lighting.

Frankly, if they are going to expect me to actually show up in order to get the paycheck then the least they could do is use more flattering lighting in the school.  Maybe something with a rose undertone to give my complexion that nice, healthy glow...

It wasn't all planning and scheduling, though.  By 1:00 I was ready for a little nap and saw no reason to not reward myself for all my hard work.  Once I'd awakened from that side trip into slumber, I spent a little time with some downloaded television and The One Row Wonder.

It really is getting bigger.  Honest.  I would not lie to you about that.  I'd lie about other stuff.  But not that.

The Vertical Scallop pattern is a handy one for the limping crocheter.  It is really quite mindless as you do the same thing over and over.  It looks pretty good in many different yarn weights and has the lovely quality of looking pretty good both right side up and sideways.  Hence, this will work as a stole when it is done and I only had to chain the foundation row for the short side rather than chain eight million across the entire length in order to make the pattern sit right when worn.

It's a win-win.

Now let's just hope that my morning routine works as well when set sideways.  It had better work because I am now far too tired to chase down and squish any more potential bugs.  If I can't seem to get out of my own way tomorrow, then I am at a loss.  I'll probably have to just quit my job and try to find work as a professional organizer or something.  And I don't think that is going to go well for me.  Present circumstances seem to indicate that it will not be a rousing success.

Maybe I could be an exterminator...

I too went back to work this past week and am having a rather difficult time adjusting to being a worker bee, as opposed to a queen of leisure. Like on Friday, when I sort of didn't really stay in the office all day and work, but instead packed up my computer and files and brought them all home in the [complete fantasy] belief that I would work on them at home this weekend. Yeah, like that...

Good luck tomorrow! I wish I could get my act together and make it to work on time. And I only have 10 miles to drive. I hate work.

It's bigger than the last time I saw it, so I'll vouch for ya.

Have you seen the show Verminators? One viewing and you would give up the whole exterminator thing.
How big is AGK now? Are you sure he's a cat? Could he be another type of feline?

I used to try shortening my morning routine by taking a shower and washing my hair the night before but I always ended up with weird hair the next morning. Now, I think I've come to a point in my life when I want sleep more and mind weird hair a lot less!

We're trying to work out some bugs too. The alarm clock is working in a different state much of this month and that makes getting out the door on time a bit difficult. Thus far (knock on wood) we haven't been late but I at least have been a bit less kempt than one would like considering that I am not yet allowed to just drop her off and zoom away. Possibly just as well since if I didn't have to show myself I might be tempted to do that drive in the PJs.

oh you are so right on how much more time it takes to get ready for work these days... that's why I'm up in middle of the night trying to get ready for this morning..

Like you said, I know I gotta go, but I don't wanna, don't wanna, don't wanna!

I put things right in my way so that I won't forget them. It doesn't work; I walk around them and right out the door. It sucks getting old!

Today is the first full day of school, coinciding with the first full week of school. Somehow, I got Neatnik fed, packed, and onto the bus. Now I am working on my class rosters/attendance sheets/grade books - I so need to take a walk to clear my head.

And I only just started.

Feeling your pain, Sheepie, um, literally.

PS - I think you might be able to nail down a job as a full-time zombie hunter and zombie preparedness trainer.

Just so you know - this is not the policy where I work. There are quite a few folks who don't do much of anything & they still get paid ;)

My morning schedule is not so much schedule as it is automatic pilot. If anything happens to throw it off, I am lost. I have had the same schedule for so long that if I have a workshop or something causing me to go in later, I don't know what to do. I hear the alarm and like Pavlov's dogs, I head for the shower. I can be trained.
