Sheepie Can't Come To The Blog Right Now...

Sorrysorrysorrysorry...

I'm late.  I know this.  I was out.  Sorry...

This is really no excuse for posting late.  It's not like I was out all day.  I was out from 6:00 this evening when I got in the car to somewhere right about now.  I suppose I had ample opportunity throughout the course of the day to drop a note.  But I didn't.  Because going out is something of a "thing" for me and it takes me the whole day to get my head around it.

When I first got the invitation to the retirement dinner for three of my former colleagues, I made an instant decision to go.  I left this job about six years ago and have missed it every single day ever since.  I don't live in that area and have no opportunity to see these people so it seemed like a nice opportunity to do a little catching up.  I wrote my check to cover the meal and sent the RSVP before I could talk myself out of it.

For normal people, this would not really be such a big deal, I suppose.  But I am one who, if not for the need to go out and earn a living, would probably require the intervention of at least fifteen different social services to attend to my needs.  I'd never leave the house.  I'd just sit in here and wait for the food people to make sure I eat, the medical people to make sure I have a pulse and the maybe see about getting one of those cool helper monkeys.

If nothing else, there is the whole Nail Polish Nightmare with which to contend.  I swear to you that, when I left the house, my nails were flawless.  They were shiny pools of perfection in a color the nail people saw fit to call Haute Chocolate.  Halfway to my destination, I observed no fewer than three chips.  Which, if you are wearing a shade dark enough to be deemed Chocolaty, is quite noticeable.

And don't even get me started on the whole shoe thing.  It took longer than I thought to find the right ones.  And they were adorable.  Just not comfortable.

The food was horrible, the air conditioning set to "Menopausal Penguin" and I had a dry skin issue that led to my not being able to open my mouth fully without feeling like my face would crack into three pieces.  (not a good look when at a public function...)

For all that, though, it was nice to see everyone again.  I remembered everyone's name and most people remembered mine.  (I look a little different than I did back then...I have a tendency to reinvent myself every few years so it's not unusual for people to not recognize me after one of my self-imposed makeovers)  Stories were told, there were lots of hugs and several people expressed an almost genuine interest in the fact that I am now a spinner.

All in all, it was worth a quarter tank of gas.  I had a few doubts after trying the fish.  But I still came back to being glad I went.

In between the Great Shoe Hunt and trying to figure out what to do with the crusty face situation, I did some spinning today.  I've finished up two bobbins of the angora blend and am in the process of plying.  Maybe tomorrow, I'll find a minute to snap a picture for you since you've been so patient with my gadding about the great state of Maine instead of tending to the blog like I'm supposed to.

Or maybe this is the start of a whole new lifestyle for me.  I'll be wearing shoes after dark and taking my Chocolate Chipped Nails out on the town all the time...

I didn't know they made chocolate brown nail polish- apparently I live under a rock. It sounds pretty though - I'll have to look for some. I was always partial to dark purple or black but now I usually wear just the 'french pink' gloss stuff that you use for a french manicure. I'm glad you had a good time at your event though.. even if you did have to trick yourself into going. :)

I'm glad you went and had a good time. I'd probably decide I wanted to go then do everything possible to get out of it. :)

I'm glad to hear you survived and even enjoyed the evening! We have a big party "do" tomorrow and I'm dreading it! I did buy a new top, and even had a manicure--but already have a broken nail and chips. That's why I always choose "skin tone" polish!
Now you can relax and enjoy Sunday!

I'll bet you looked lovely, although chocolate colored nails might encourage ME to nibble them.

I'm surprised HM didn't appear to make the adventure even more memorable. How'd you manage to keep her in the dark about the whole thing?

Perhaps the nail polish people meant to call that color "Chocolate Chip" and it was supposed to get all chippy like that.

Good for you for taking your hermitty self out of the house and going to a function - with people even! Just think, you'll be getting plenty of practice all summer long as you venture out EVERY Tuesday night. Can you tell I'm excited to spend some summer knitting time with you?

It sounds like you had a good time, despite the chipped polish, uncomfortable shoes, and the ugly capris. I've given up on nail polish; it looks good for all of about three minutes.

Have a restful Sunday!

I generally consider a party a success if no one gets drunk and throws up on the buffet.

I think I need classier friends.

It actually sounds like a success. Chipped nail polish and uncomfortable (albeit cute!) shoes for me is just about typical at one of those functions. AND you got some spinning fit into your weekend. Really..... it all sounds good.

I'm usually lucky to be chip free for long enough to get home. Naturally, I've never managed to get a chip before actually leaving the establishment so that I could blame them and make them fix it, but otherwise, I'm lucky to make it an hour. Which is why I gave up paying for manicures. Which meant giving up painted nails since I can't do it myself to save my life. I'm now starting to train the young one to do it for me. Muahahaha
