I Know, I Know...

It is Friday. I don't normally post on Friday. But, I thought that this might interest you:

This is the current temperature in my U.S. living room. If I were anywhere else in the world, it would read 33.3 C.
Is there anyone out there who might be willing to come over sometime later today and wring me out? Maybe fan me a little bit? Administer the ice packs? Start a Mountain Dew I.V. drip?
Just let me know...

My dearest Sheepie - may I direct your attention to the following link of loveliness:

You should read the 1st review as it pertains to life in the northeast. My only fear is that such a contraption may force you to reduce the stash....

Go watch a movie - movie theaters are air-conditioned. Or, come work with me in my air-conditioned office - I'm certain I can find a Mountain Dew and frozen pizza for you.

What is the humidity level?

Sheepie you must get AC! maybe the gas station where the lady calls you sweetie will let you hang out there and knit. you can take one of those folding canvas chairs, and just camp out need the beverages section.

An old trick from the days before air conditioning was to jump in the shower in your clothes, then go about your business (only at home, please) in the wet garments. The evaporation keeps you cooler than you would be in dry clothes, especially with a fan going.

If the wet t-shirt isn't your thing, you can achieve some of the same effect by wetting down a cotton kerchief and tying it loosely around your neck. I've done that when gardening and it really does help. You can also buy neck thingies that have silica crystals in them; when you soak them in cool water for half an hour or so they absorb lots of water and swell up. Those will stay damp for days.

Cooler weather is on the way -- we have had two days now of beautiful days with highs around 80˚ and a dew point (= nighttime low) in the 40s.

My thermostat says 93 in my unairconditioned living room. It is unbearable. We broke down last year and got small units in our bedrooms so now no one comes out of the bedroom except for necessities. I hope this heatwave breaks soon. I am tired of my bedroom.....

Poor Sheepie. The heat wave has relented a bit here in the midwest, so you may have some hope of relief after all.

Oh man, that is a hot living room! Is your library air conditioned?

Holy heatwave, Batman - er, Sheepie. Hydrate yourself and keep safe. Or go on an extended visit to a friend or family member with AC.

Do you have one of those neat sprinkler systems? I'd be glad to set something on fire for you...

It is cruel this heat and humidity. Try not to melt.

I'm learning something about Maine. I figured it never got above 85 that far north or alternatively that you'd have residual snow to cool things off in the summer.

Time to don the shades and deposit yourself somewhere with an A/C. Take knitting and an audio-book and you'll never notice the stares nor hear the remarks from "the others." Just remember to take protection lest the zobies are out.

Even out here in La-La Land, it's hot and humid. Last night it was 80 in my dining room (where the thermostat lives)... WITH the a/c on... and 75 outside. Arrrgh! (Big old house. Underpowered a/c. Long story.)
Oh, and the squeeeeeeeee thing? It's hard on the reader's eardrums.

92 indoors?! You need to get yourself a good old air conditioner! We've been using ours for two weeks straight and it's a savior.

My heavens! I sure do hope you have been able to survive such heat!
Fans and ice sound like a short term solution.
