Belated Blogging...

The blogging obligations are being met a bit late tonight.  This is not my fault.  I am often on the receiving end of things I like to call A Series Of Events.  They usually start early and end late.  Frankly, I am shocked that I can post this before midnight...

It started this morning when I finally decided that I could no longer avoid the whole Monday Thing.  Monday had arrived and there was no way that pulling the covers over my head was going to make it any less of a Monday.  I grumpily went about the morning routine, finally getting to the point where I could pull on my crisp, but maybe not so professional looking Monday Jeans.

And then I remembered.  Tonight was the second round of Parent/Teacher Conferences.  Jeans, however, tidy, were not quite crisp enough to pull off the professional look a teacher should project on conference night.  I needed to change into my less crisp brown pants with the matching wrinkled cardigan.

All this changing into wrinkly garments made me a bit late and I didn't have time to stop for gas.  I also realized half-way to school that I had failed to pack up any knitting.  I cursed myself for this as it meant a long night with nothing to do since I had but two conferences.  I then comforted myself with the thought that I could play on the computer.  Maybe even get the blog post out early...

After a long and rather trying day with the students, I hustled them out the door so I could run out to get some gas into the car.  I dutifully signed myself out using the blue office notebook because that is just how these things are done.  But I was kind of tired from all the student-wrangling and had a bit of a headache.  Hence, I failed to censor myself when explaining my errand to the secretary.  I told her in my out-loud voice that I needed to get the car gassed up while the sun was still out because to do it later meant that the zombies might get me.

I got lucky, though.  It turns out that the secretary is a fellow Zombie Warrior and was more than happy to discuss the shambling dead with me.  We agreed to exchange movies from our personal collections and shared our favorite methods for extermination.  Of course, this put me off schedule a bit...

I returned to school with a tankful of gas to my credit (at $2.18 a gallon, I might add) and settled in with some peanut butter-filled pretzels.  You can't forget dinner on conference night.  You gotta keep your strength up.  I had plenty of time before the first conference even if I was a bit behind schedule.  Except that one of the teachers needed to meet with me.  And that ran until my first conference.

The first conference required the discussion of Very Serious Matters.  It went well over an hour.  It also required a follow up meeting with the school counselor.  And that lasted until the next conference.  Which also seemed to require the discussion of Very Serious Matters.  Another hour gone.

Suddenly, the assistant principal was heard over the loudspeaker telling us that we needed to wrap up our conferences and go away.  He wanted to close the school for the night and whatnot.
The blog window had closed while I was avoiding zombies, not knitting and discussing stuff.  Then I had to stop and pick up that printer cable thingie that I was whining about yesterday because I'd promised myself I would do that on the way home and we don't want to break promises to ourselves, now do we?

And so ends another Series Of Events.  The blog post is done as are the fall conferences.  Better late than never, I suppose.  I don't have to do them again until the spring.  That is very far away, if you think about it.

But I am packing up the knitting now so I don't forget it again and I've already ironed my Professional Outfit so that it will be ready.  I think I may have it all together this time!

But at least the zombies didn't get you.

Congratulations on finishing conferences. My older son's teacher had a conference scheduled every 15 minutes from 7 am to 7 pm for two straight days. I'm not entirely certain, by the time I got there on day 2, that she even recognized my son. Or that the sun had set and risen again since she started.

I think it's wonderful that you found a fellow zombie warrior at school! Because you never know when disaster will strike...

$2.19 a gallon? I'm fairly sure it's more than twice that here!

petrol [gas] is around $1.50 a litre here. There is just a touch over a quarter gallon to a litre and I'd work it out properly but I don't think I want to know !!
my verification word was knicr - which reminded me that we haven't had a major sheepie underwear-buying post for a while [ yes we calls 'em knickers here ]

You really wrote that?
You're doomed.

So, you're ready for the Spring conferences? Way to go! Now they can't sneak up on you. I make sure I look "semi professional" on Mondays and Tuesdays because I see clients all day in clinic. The rest of the week is throw on clothes and try to match and wear clean socks. Unless there is a meeting. Sometimes it feels like there is always a meeting.

My mom was a teacher and parent-teacher conferences were one of her least favorite parts of the job. Glad you survived. And that none of the parents were zombies!

You're really lucky that neither of the parents were zombies. It would have thrown everything off even more.
